CALL TO WORSHIP

The women arrive at the empty tomb
God is nowhere
Suddenly Jesus meets them
God is now here

Mary weeping with loss in the garden
God is nowhere
The gardener speaks her name
God is now here

The disciples afraid in a locked room
God is nowhere
Then Jesus appears
God is now here

Thomas refusing to believe
God is nowhere
He touches Jesus wounds
God is now here

The disciples fish all night without a catch
God is nowhere
“Throw your net over the right side”
God is now here

Peter shattered when the cock crows
God is nowhere
A healing conversation on the beach
God is now here

Two disciples downcast on the Emmaus Rd
God is nowhere
They recognized him in the breaking of bread
God is now here

GODISNOWHERE

OPENING TO GOD                           I Believe in Jesus                   New Kilpatrick Parish Church

I believe
I awaken to

Jesus Christ
the one who walked our earth
and whose God-light shone through

God’s only son
the one whose life came from the very life of God
our Lord our guide, our teacher, our friend

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
whose life was an intent of God’s creative imagination

born of the Virgin Mary
who sang love’s song at his beginning and was blessed

suffered under Pontius Pilate
rejected by the powers of the world

was crucified
executed by those same powers

died
sharing the same death of us all

and was buried
love had been killed

he descended to hell
and they thought this the end

but on the third day
nothing could contain, bind or hold the life Jesus began

he rose again
and the story continues to be believed
of renewal, transformation and life again.

I believe in
I awaken to

(unison)  Jesus

YOUNG PEOPLE’S MESSAGE                                                                    The Sturgeon family

GOSPEL                                                Mark 16:1-8                                               Liz Rochefort
When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, ‘Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?’ When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back.

As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, ‘Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.’

So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK
O God, of the unexpected—
you again surprise us with
a Resurrection that starts
with the cry of grief,
an empty place,
a familiar voice.

It’s tiny…
like the fingers of a newborn.
Seemingly insignificant…
like the grain of sand that lands in the oyster’s open mouth.
Often overlooked…
like the leaf bud on the tree.

Or like a mustard seed, a grain of wheat, a treasure in a field, a lost coin . . .

Christ has risen.
Waiting for us to take notice.

Christ has risen.
Waiting for us to respond.

Christ has risen.
Christ has risen indeed!
