WELCOME                                                        Euguene Blaire, Africana Worship

Praise the Lord and sing to the Lord a new song.
Let’s lift our voices and just praise the Lord!

Let the people rejoice in God their maker,

and let all the children be filled with joy.
Let’s lift our hands and just praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord with dancing and singing, timbrels and harps.
Let’s lift our souls and just praise the Lord!

Let the saints of God be joyful

and let them sing aloud all the day long.
Let’s lift our songs and just praise the Lord!

Let there be high praises to God in our mouths & on our lips.
Let’s lift our shouts and just praise the Lord!

Praise God for mighty deeds of justice,
righteousness, and honor.

Let’s lift our shouts and just praise the Lord!

OPENING TO GOD TIME                                                                  Kwasi I. Kena

Behold the Lord, God’s Servant, the Chosen One.
God’s Spirit rests upon the One to bring justice to the nations.
We need justice in our homes and communities today.

Come, Lord Jesus, with justice for the earth.

We need justice in our schools and on our streets today.
We need justice in our nations and world today.

Come, Lord Jesus, with justice for the earth.

Lord, God’s Servant, the Chosen One,
We call upon you to uproot ungodliness
In every crevice of human existence today.

Come, Lord Jesus, with justice for the earth.

We call upon you, Lord, the only Righteous Judge,
To dispense the type of justice that transforms hatred.

Come, Lord Jesus, with justice for the earth.

We call upon you, Lord, to provide the kind of justice
That clears muddy waters of corruption.

Come, Lord Jesus, with justice for the earth.

The earth cries with the voices of the hungry,
The maimed and the slaughtered innocents.

Come, Lord Jesus, with justice for the earth.

YOUNG PEOPLE’S MESSAGE                                                 Danielle Sturgeon

EPISTLE                                 Romans 13:8-14

Pay your debts as they come due. However, one debt you can never finish paying is the debt of love that you owe each other. The one who loves another person has fulfilled Moses’ Teachings. The commandments, “Never commit adultery; never murder; never steal; never have wrong desires,” and every other commandment are summed up in this statement: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Love never does anything that is harmful to a neighbor. Therefore, love fulfills Moses’ Teachings.

You know the times in which we are living. It’s time for you to wake up. Our salvation is nearer now than when we first became believers. The night is almost over, and the day is near. So we should get rid of the things that belong to the dark and take up the weapons that belong to the light. We should live decently, as people who live in the light of day. Wild parties, drunkenness, sexual immorality, promiscuity, rivalry, and jealousy cannot be part of our lives. Instead, live like the Lord Jesus Christ did, and forget about satisfying the desires of our corrupt nature.

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK                                               Steve Garnaas-Holmes            God,
help me this day to add love to the world.
Not fear, not anxiety
about what I owe or am owed, but love.

Help me know my freedom—
not to do what I please,
but to fulfill my call to love,

my only goal not that I prevail
but that others receive love.
In calm interactions,
or in moments of anxiety or conflict,
let me contribute love.

In silence or in confrontation,
in public endeavor or quiet prayer,
in heroic action or mundane chores,
let me add love to the world.

O God of Love,
let your love overflow:
fulfill your love in me.
Amen.

LORD’S PRAYER

COMMUNION                                                                              Margaret Atwood

All bread is made of wood,
cow dung, packed brown moss,
the bodies of dead animals, the teeth
and backbones, what is left
after the ravens. This dirt
flows through the stems into the grain,
into the arm, nine strokes
of the axe, skin from a tree,
good water which is the first
gift, four hours.
Live burial under a moist cloth,
a silver dish, a row
of white famine bellies
swollen and taut in the oven,
lungfuls of warm breath stopped
in the heat from an old sun.
Good bread has the salt taste
of your hands after nine
strokes of the axe, the salt
taste of your mouth, it smells
of its own small death, of the deaths
before and after.
Lift these ashes
into your mouth, your blood;
to know what you devour
is to consecrate it,
almost. All bread must be broken
so it can be shared. Together
we eat this earth.
